Two HMV stores looted during London riots

Retailer confirms stores in Wood Green and Enfied were targeted, but no staff were hurt

Two HMV stores were broken into and looted during the riots in London this weekend.

The stores were broken into after rioting erupted in the UK capital on Saturday night (August 6) after a peaceful protest in the area against the fatal shooting of local man Mark Duggan took an ugly turn. Violence was widespread with cars and buildings being set alight and local amenities smashed.

According to Music Week, HMV has confirmed that the stores, which were situated in Wood Green and Enfield, were looted by rioters and that the loss of stock had been extensive, but that no staff were hurt in the process. Both stores remain closed at the present time.

A spokesperson for the store said:

Whilst its on-site teams are working hard to normalise matters as quickly as possible, it is likely that it will take a number of days before the stores are in a position to re-open. In the meantime HMV trusts that customers will understand, and apologises for the inconvenience this may cause.

Police are still investigating the events surrounding the riots over the weekend.
