NASA launch ‘wake up’ contest featuring The Clash, Foo Fighters and The Beatles

Space agency ask the public to vote on the songs they should use on an upcoming mission

NASA have launched a contest to pick the two songs which they’ll use to wake up astronauts on an upcoming space mission.

Song by The Clash, Foo Fighters and The Beatles are among the list of 40, which the space agency have selected from a batch of previously used tracks.

The Clash‘s ‘Should I Stay Or Should I Go?’, Foo Fighters‘Learn To Fly’ and The Beatles‘Good Day Sunshine’ and ‘Here Comes the Sun’ are all in contention to be played during the STS-133 mission, which is due to begin on November 1.

Other songs on the list include U2‘s ‘Beautiful Day’, Metallica‘s ‘Enter Sandman’, Elton John‘s ‘Rocket Man’ and The Rolling Stones‘Start Me Up’.

Currently in the lead with 28.5% of the vote is Rush‘s ‘Countdown’, followed by Alexander Courage‘s ‘Star Trek Theme’ on 28.2% and Steppenwolf‘s ‘Magic Carpet Ride’ on 21.7%.
