Corporation calls rumours of TOTP's return a 'red herring'
The BBC is looking to develop a new music programme, quashing rumours that Top Of The Pops could be revived.
The corporation said that it is looking to develop a new programme and will not return to the long-running series, which still makes a return each Christmas.
“It would be great if we could get a new popular music-based programme with a new format, a new kind of offer that really worked for the audience,” Guardian.co.uk quotes Andy Parfitt, the BBC‘s head of popular music, as saying during a breakfast with the Broadcasting Press Guild.
“The work is on to try and find a format, but we are not trying to relaunch or reinvent Top Of The Pops. That is kind of a red herring. Should we be looking for a programme? Of course we should and we are.”
However Parfitt was not drawn on when a new music programme could air.
