BBC Radio 4 programme has featured the likes of Morrissey and Paul McCartney
The programme, which was first broadcast in 1942, features a different guest each week speaking about the special songs and a luxury item that they would take with them if they were cast away on a desert island. Past guests include Paul McCartney, Morrissey and Alice Cooper.
Five hundred editions of the BBC Radio 4 programme will be available to listen to online to as part of the corporation’s new archiving scheme, reports The Guardian. The deal is believed to have come as a result of the BBC reaching an agreement with the family of the late novelist, writer and broadcaster Roy Plomley, who devised the programme and presented it until 1985.
The archive will go online from next month, and will be available from the Desert Island Discs website.
