Suspect pleads not guilty in Hudson family murders

William Balfour enters his plea in court

William Balfour has pleaded not guilty to murdering the mother, brother and nephew of singer/actress Jennifer Hudson.

Appearing in Cook County Court yesterday (January 20), the 27-year-old nodded at family members before entering his plea.

He has been the only suspect in the murder case since the bodies of Hudson‘s mother, Darnell Hudson Donerson, and older brother, Jason were discovered in the Hudson family home on Chicago’s South Side. Seven-year-old Julian King’s body was found in an SUV some days later. All died from gunshot wounds.

As previously reported, Jennifer Hudson is set to perform the US national anthem at the Super Bowl next month.

This will be her first public performance since the murders in October.

Hudson will join Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band performing at what is usually the most-watched television broadcast in the US.

The event will take place in Tampa Bay, FL on February 1.
