Rapper shot and killed in Los Angeles

Dolla was gunned down at a posh Beverly Hills mall

Atlanta rapper Dolla was shot and killed in Los Angeles yesterday (May 18) by a suspect who fled the scene in a silver Mercedes.

The 21-year-old rapper, whose real name is Roderick Anthony Burton II, was shot in the head while standing in the valet parking area of the posh Beverly Center mall.

The shooting caused several people in the parking lot and at a nearby restaurant to duck for cover. Witnesses reported that a fight broke out in the parking lot, but the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) could not confirm or deny those reports.

It has been confirmed, however, that Dolla was at the mall with rapper DJ Shabbazz.

The fatally injured Dolla was rushed to the nearby Cedars-Sinai Medical Center where he died soon afterwards, reports the Los Angeles Times.

The LAPD has not yet identified any suspects or a motive for the killing, but a “person of interest” was reportedly apprehended at the Los Angeles International Airport brandishing a gun. Police later found the Mercedes parked in one of the airport’s lots.

The up-and-coming rapper had flown into Los Angeles earlier in the morning to work on his debut album, which was scheduled to be released on Jive Records this summer. His single ‘Feelin’ Myself’ was featured on the soundtrack of the 2006 dance film ‘Step Up’.
