Edith Bowman becomes UK’s only female breakfast show host as part of Virgin Radio relaunch

Station will return on March 30 with DJs including Kate Lawler and Matt Richardson

Edith Bowman and former Big Brother winner Kate Lawler are among the DJs who will relaunch Virgin Radio in March.

Virgin Radio will return on March 30 with Bowman hosting the digital station’s breakfast show. The station has been absent from airwaves since 2008 when its owners rebranded it as Absolute Radio. UTV Media have since entered into partnership with Virgin Radio International and have confirmed its relaunch plans today (February 10).

Bowman, thought to be the only solo female host of a breakfast show on commercial radio, will be joined on the station by DJ Lawler who has presented on Capital FM and Manchester based Key 103 since winning Big Brother in 2002. She will host the afternoon show with journalist turned TV personality Jamie East presenting the mid-morning slot.

Matt Richardson, former host of ITV2’s Xtra Factor, takes on the drivetime slot while Tim Cocker will present the evening show. Cocker was a host on XFM before it was rebranded as Radio X in 2015 and he was replaced by Chris Moyles.

The Virgin Radio brand will return after UTV Media secured a licensing deal with Richard Branson’s Virgin Group.
