Actor also says he does not feel need to fit into rap scene

Joaquin Phoenix has admitted that he is bothered by media speculation that his move into the world of hip hop is merely a spoof.

The actor has been making headlines recently with his hip hop project, which he is apparently working on with P Diddy.

“I can see how people might think it is shocking,” he told Reuters. “But by saying my life is a joke or the thing that I love is a joke, well, that bothers me.”

Phoenix also says he doesn’t have to dress like other hip hop stars in order to make the kind of music he wishes to, and that he doesn’t feel pressure to be part of that scene.

“I am not trying to be hip-hop, I am not trying to dress hip-hop, I am who I am. It’s the particular medium I have chosen to express myself, but I don’t’ feel like I have to fit in,” he says.

He is currently on the promotional trail with his movie ‘Two Lovers’, which he says is his last project as an actor.
