BSkyB teams up with Universal Music to take on iTunes

New online music subscription service launched

The UK’s biggest pay-for-TV company BSkyB, who operate Sky Digital, is launching an online music subscription service.

The company has signed up Universal, the world’s largest music group, as its first partner.

The service, that will offer downloads and streaming for a monthly subscription fee, could challenge Apple and its iTunes option.

According to Reuters.com the songs will be available in mp3 format, and BSkyB are in discussion with other major music companies – with further details to be released soon.
