Nokia launches iPhone rival

New device will support subscription service

The first major rival to the iPhone has been launched by Nokia.

The phone company have today unveiled their new Nokia 5800 XpressMusic, a multimedia handset that will support the company’s soon-to-be-launched Comes With Music subscription service.

With an 8GB memory allowing for storage of up to 6,000 tracks, it supports all of the main digital music formats and boasts built-in surround sound stereo speakers.

The main innovation is a ‘Media Bar’; a drop down menu allowing direct access to music, photos and videos, and directly linking to the web and online sharing.

Meanwhile, the unit’s ‘Contact’s Bar’ lets users highlight four favourite contacts on the home screen and track a history of text messages, emails, call logs, photos and blog updates through a single touch.

The 3.2″ widescreen display also supports 30 frames-per-second video recording.

The phone is set to be launched soon, price TBC.
