NME.COM added to an increasing clutch of awards last night when editor ANTHONY THORNTON was crowned EDITOR OF THE YEAR (ONLINE MAGAZINE) at the BSME (British Society Of Magazine Editors) annual ceremony in London.

The award is NME.COM’s second major industry prize of 2001, having already won Online Magazine Of The Year at the PPA (Periodical Publishers’ Association) ceremony, an award NME.COM also won in 1999. In 2000, NME.COM news writer Julian Marshall was named Young Online Journalist of The Year.

Last night’s award, presented at the Hilton Hotel, follows on from the Gold Award presented by Web User magazine for best music website.

“This award is really for all the NME.COM team who’ve worked above and beyond the call of duty day after day,” said Thornton. “It’s their expertise, skill and devotion to music which makes it the site which people keep coming back to in their millions.”
