Rumours are rife that Virgin have got cold feet over Posh Spice in the wake of poor single sales - but they insist her album will come out as planned...

VICTORIA BECKHAM‘s spokeswoman has denied music industry rumours that the fifth and final solo SPICE GIRLS album – due for release on October 1 – has been shelved by VIRGIN.

“No, no way, it’s definitely still coming out,” Victoria’s spokeswoman told NME.COM of the eponymous record today . It had been suggested that Virgin were intending to cut their losses following the relative lack of success of this week’s single ‘Not Such An Innocent Girl’, currently sitting at Number Five behind an animated builder, a Euro novelty single, an ex-soap star

and a 13-year-old Michael Jackson song.

“She’s fine about it,” the spokeswoman added. “She said before that

she wasn’t expecting a Number One, and she’s thrilled to be Top Five. I think

it’ll take a while for people to get their heads around the fact that Victoria is a singer, but the album is really strong and I think it’ll really come through.”

On the subject of follow-up singles to ‘Not Such An Innocent Girl’, she tells NME.COM that ‘A Mind Of Its Own’ – a mid-tempo track with a pure pop chorus, is slated as a second single, with ‘Girlfriend’ (a Destiny’s Child-style stomper concerning someone’s boyfriend chatting Victoria up in a club) as a possibility further on in the campaign.

Last night (September 20) Victoria recorded an interview with legendary UK chat show host Michael Parkinson, for broadcast tomorrow. Victoria will be joined by footballer David Beckham, ex-footballer George Best, and Elton John.
