Singer played show at the Natural History Museum in London on Wednesday

Ed Sheeran made light of a recent mishap involving Princess Beatrice, a sword and his face, joking at a charity gig last night (November 30).

Princess Beatrice, Sheeran and James Blunt were at a party at the Royal Lodge in Windsor earlier this month when the incident occurred. According to reports, Blunt joked that he wanted to become Sir James. Princess Beatrice retrieved a ceremonial sword, swung it backwards, accidentally catching Ed Sheeran on the cheek in the process.

“The blade cut into his face and it was just a few inches from his right eye,” one source told The Sun. “A couple of the guests said it could have been worse and he could have been blinded in the eye, but Ed really played it down. Everyone was totally shocked and apparently Beatrice was very upset. But Ed was the perfect gentleman and told her it was just an accident.” Apparently Sheeran went to the hospital, got stitches, and then went back to the party.

Sheeran performed at a gala dinner for East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) at the Natural History Museum in London on Wednesday evening. During the show, his only gig of 2016, he said: “It’s nice to be back, I’ve had a whole year off. I’ve done quite a lot, but it had nothing to do with music. I went to Japan for about a month.”

He added: “I got my face cut open, did anyone read about that? What a story”. Watch in the video below.

While performing at the Natural History Museum, Ed Sheeran joked about the moment Princess Beatrice sliced his cheek open while trying to ‘knight’ James Blunt

In October, betting was suspended on Ed Sheeran headlining Glastonbury 2017.

Jessica Bridge of Ladbrokes said: “It looks like Ed’s cameo in the latest Bridget Jones film was the clue all along. Punters have piled into his odds at a rate of knots and we’re left with no option but to close the betting for the time being.”
