Taking to the centre of the stadium, the singers held hands as they covered the Lennon classic, surrounded by spectators holding candles.

An estimated 35,000 spectators were in attendance at the Olympic Stadium, with temperatures reaching as low as -6C during the two-hour ceremony.

The ceremony also included Donald Trump and Kim Jong-Un look-a-likes along with the return of Tonga’s Pita Taufatofua, who went viral after appearing topless at the 2016 Rio opening ceremony.
