Tool have debuted new track ‘Descending’ in a promotional video for their forthcoming tour. Check it out below.
The track is heard in the background of the new video – and it’s believed to be an instrumental studio demo version of the full song.
Despite being played at Tool shows in recent years, the seminal metallers are yet to release a finished studio version of the track.
The new track comes after frontman Maynard J Keenan hinted that work is finally finished on the follow-up to 2006’s ‘10,000 Days’.
When quizzed by a fan on Twitter, he replied: “My work is done”.
He added in the since deleted tweet: “Waiting on them to track. Then I can finish. Can’t track to music that isn’t recorded.”
A surprise collaboration with Death Grips could also be on the cards, after the noise-rap duo posted a photo that showed them working in the studio with the group.
In December, Rage Against The Machine’s Tom Morello also claimed to have heard new music , which he described as “brutal and beautiful “.
“Had the honour of being the first outsider to hear new #TOOL music today!!” he wrote. “Still just instrumentals but sounded epic, majestic, symphonic, brutal, beautiful, tribal, mysterious, deep, sexy and VERY Tool”, Morello claimed on Instagram.
Tool frontman Maynard James Keenan previously said the reason for the album, which was anticipated for release this year, taking so long was his bandmates’ indecisiveness. He said: “I like to release records and write things a little more quickly than those guys like to write. Their process is very analytical.”
