WEEZER BASSIST ENTERS PSYCHIATRIC HOSPITAL

Though the group admit they aren't really sure what's wrong with their friend...

WEEZER bassist MIKEY WELSH has checked into a psychiatric hospital.

As reported earlier in the week, the group have started looking for a replacement for Welsh after the bassist was unable to meet the band for rehearsals in LA because of an undisclosed illness.

Now, according to a posting on the band’s official website at www.weezer.com, Welsh has entered a psychiatric hospital near his home in Boston.

The posting reads: “We have learned that Mikey has checked into a psychiatric hospital, we think in his hometown of Boston. However, we unfortunately still don’t know what’s wrong with him, and continue to find it very difficult to find out any more from those who might know. We wish him the very best and we hope he comes back soon.

“But in the meantime, due to the circumstances at hand with the upcoming tours and such, we are indeed hastily scheduling try-outs for a replacement player for the upcoming gigs, JUST IN CASE Mikey isn’t able to return.”

A UK spokesperson for the band was unavailable for comment this morning (August 15).

The group are also working on new material, and have written 23 new songs.
