Around 200 people were arrested on drug charges during a weekend of shows in ALABAMA by veteran Southern rockers WIDESPREAD PANIC – in which one person died of an apparent overdose.
The swoops came on Friday, Saturday and Sunday (April 26-28) as the band played to over 30,000 fans in total in Pelham, Alabama. About half the arrests were on felony drug charges with the rest coming for minor drug offences and drinking charges. The crackdown, at the Oak Mountain Ampitheatre, was called Operation Don’t Panic.
Pelham Police Captain E.A. Thomas Jr said Erica Robins Young, 29, of Chattanooga died of an apparent Ecstasy overdose. The drug had been purchased for $20.
Local ‘paper The Birmingham News said Young collapsed about 10pm on Saturday, with people continuing to dance around her before she was finally dragged from the stands and given cardiopulmonary resuscitation. She died about an hour later.
