RECORD BREAKER

Over 1.1million copies of Will Young's single sold in a week...

As expected, ‘POP IDOL’ winner WILL YOUNG has raced to the top of the UK single charts today (March 3) after moving 1.1 million copies of ‘ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE/EVERGREEN’ in one week.

The single is the fastest selling debut in history and initial figures indicate Young sold more than the rest of the top 200 altogether. It is likely that the song will remain there next week too. Despite Young’s domination, there were other new entries this week.

Dance act Shakira went in at Number Two with ‘Whenever, Wherever’ two places above Lasgo with ‘Something’. Canadian rockers Nickelback scored a hit going in at five with ‘How You Remind Me’ while Beverly Knight was the last new entry on the Top Ten at Ten with ‘Shoulda, Woulda, Coulda’.

On down the chart, there were entries from a couple of NME favourites. White Stripes went in at 21 with ‘Fell In Love With A Girl’ and Bubba Sparxx went in at 24 with ‘Lovely’. Cartoon four-piece Gorillaz went in at 34 with ‘Tomorrow Comes Today’. There were other entries this week from Jamiroquai at 14 with ‘Love Foolosophy’ and the Lighthouse Family at 30 with ‘Run’.

There was little movement on the album chart with Sting remaining at one with his Greatest Hits collection ‘The Very Best Of…’. Barbra Streisand went in at four with ‘The Essential…’ while Brandy went in at Nine with ‘Full Moon’.
