Wiz Khalifa’s ‘See You Again’ sets Spotify records for most plays in a day and week

Track penned as a tribute to Paul Walker

Not only is Fast & Furious 7 raking it in at the box office, with the movie expected to be the year’s first $1 billion hit. The soundtrack is also breaking all sorts of records.

Wiz Khalifa’s ‘See You Again’, which plays over a tribute to the film’s sadly departed star Paul Walker, has set Spotify records for most plays in a day and week. The track was streamed 4.2 million times on April 13 on the digital music service, and 21.9 million times in the week ending April 12.

‘See You Again’ features singer Charlie Puth and is currently Number 1 in 26 countries, including the UK, US Australia, Germany, Mexico and Hong Kong.

“This is one of those special moments when all the forces have aligned to create a song that is resonating emotionally with millions around the world,” said Craig Kallman, Chairman and CEO of Atlantic Records, in a statement.

“The combination of Wiz’s star power with the introduction of Charlie as a brilliant singer and songwriter is truly magical, striking a nerve with Paul Walker’s legion of fans and the film’s enormous audience. All of us at Atlantic are thrilled and gratified by the response that this moving tribute has received from Spotify’s global listeners.”

Though a huge hit, many cinema-goers criticised rapper Iggy Azalea for her acting cameo in Fast & Furious 7, despite that fact that she appears in the movie for just 15 seconds, having only two lines of dialogue (“Hey, there’s the girl I’ve heard so much about. Where you been at, ghost girl?”).

“Furious 7 was so good too bad iggy azalea had to ruin it!” one Twitter user wrote, with another adding: “Lol @ everyone in the theatre sighing during Iggy azalea’s scene in Furious 7”.
