120 independent music venues across the UK will host gigs from January 25-31, 2016
Wolf Alice have been announced as the ambassadors for Independent Venue Week 2016.
120 independent music venues across the UK will host gigs during the seven day campaign, which runs from January 25-31, 2016 and aims to highlight the importance of small gig venues and celebrate their importance in the UK music scene.
Commenting on the role, Wolf Alice said:
“We are proud to be ambassadors of this year’s Independent Venue Week and ask for peoples support so these kind of unique, intimate and sweaty shows continue for everyone to enjoy. Venues that we started off playing along with so many other bands have created some of our funniest memories to date. We’d love for that to continue for us and for other bands, please show your support.”
Artists performing over the seven days include: Everything Everything, Matthew E White, Mallory Knox, Childhood, Misty Miller, Beans On Toast, Eliza And The Bear, Saffron (Republica) Tom Hingley (Inspiral Carpets), Georgia, Get Inuit, Edwyn Collins and Get Cape, Wear Cape, Fly.
Rob Da Bank, BBC Introducing, PIAS, Domino Records, The Joe Strumner Foundation are among the curating partners. More artists are set to be announced over the coming weeks.
The team behind the event explained its importance.
“Independent Venue Week is a seven day celebration of small music venues around the UK and a nod to the people that own, run and work in them, week in, week out.
These venues give artists their first experience of playing live in front of an audience and for fans, somewhere to get up close to artists that one day, may well be playing stadiums and festival main stages.
These venues are the backbone of the live music scene in this country and Independent Venue Week wants to recognise all that they have done to create some of the most memorable nights of the past so they can continue to do the same in the future.”
