RZA gives Raekwon 30 days to re-join Wu-Tang Clan or else new album may not be released

Fractions within hip-hop group could delay release of 'A Better Tomorrow'

RZA has given Raekwon 30 days to re-join Wu-Tang Clan, suggesting that the group’s long-awaited new album may not get a release if he does not.

As previously reported, RZA confirmed that he does not speak to his colleague and believes they are currently on “different creative paths” to one another. Raekwon responded and said that he thinks that Wu-Tang Clan would benefit from a change of direction, away from RZA’s guidance.

Speaking to Sports Illustrated, RZA (pictured above) said he wants to release ‘A Better Tomorrow’ but doesn’t want to do so without Raekwon (pictured right) on board. “If we don’t come to terms [with Raekwon], I think, within the next 30 days, then this will either be an album without Raekwon or an album that never sees the light of day. And that’s a very strong potential,” he said.

He continued: “I would not want to put out a Wu-Tang album without every live member available,” he said. “At the same time, I don’t want the fans not to have this incredible music that we’ve been workin’ on for the last year. So that’s gonna be a tough decision, but we’ve got about 30 days to make that decision and come to that conclusion.”

RZA is currently overseeing two albums from the group, ‘The Wu – Once Upon A Time In Shaolin’ and ‘A Better Tomorrow’, the former being limited to just one copy which will be exhibited and later sold to the highest bidder.

RZA previously revealed that the group have already been offered $5million (£3,006,070) for ‘The Wu – Once Upon A Time In Shaolin’.

The band plan to take the album on a “tour” of museums, galleries and festivals, where they will charge between $30-$50 (£18 to £30) to view and listen to the album. The listening sessions will take place behind heavy security and will use headphones provided by the venue, to prevent the album leaking.
