Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ Karen O reportedly pregnant with first child

The singer released her debut solo album 'Crush Songs' last year

Yeah Yeah Yeahs singer Karen O is reportedly expecting her first child.

The musician attended the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame ceremony in Cleveland on Saturday night (April 18), performing a live tribute to the late Lou Reed. Billboard report that O “revealed wordlessly that she is pregnant with her first child when she walked the red carpet… [with] her rounder belly on full display beneath a studded leather jacket”.

Karen O is married to director Barnaby Clay, who has also worked with Gnarls Barkley and Depeche Mode, as well as shooting the Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ video for ‘Zero’.

Karen O released her debut solo album ‘Crush Songs’ in September of last year via Julian Casablancas’ Cult Records label.

Speaking to NME recently, Karen O revealed that her band currently have no plans of working on new material and are “on a bit of a hiatus”. She explained that the group are waiting to feel inspired before starting anything new together. “We’re on a bit of hiatus at the moment, so nothing yet. We have to wait to get the urge, get that itch. The time needs to be right and we’re OK waiting for that, I think,” she said, adding that when the band do get back together “it’ll be like muscle memory, this unspoken thing between the three of us where it all just… locks in.”

O also spoke about her nervousness when it came to releasing solo material for the first time and why it took seven years for ‘Crush Songs’ to go from being written to being made public. “Even when the whole thing was a done deal, like two weeks before the record came out, I was having second thoughts, like, ‘No! What am I doing?! Is it too late to put the brakes on?!’ It’s a big thing to bare yourself to the world on your own […] It just took a while to commit to the idea of sharing something so personal,” she said.
