NME cover star joins Maisie Williams, Jaden Smith and Stranger Things' Gaten Materazzo in annual poll
NME cover star Zara Larsson has been named among the most influential teenagers in the world by Time Magazine.
Time’s annual poll also featured stars including Shawn Mendes, Stranger Things actor Gaten Materazzo, Jaden Smith and Game Of Thrones actor Maisie Williams in its list.
Chosen by the magazine’s staff, others in the list include Sia’s dancer Maddie Ziegler, the youngest chosen at aged 14. Previous teenagers named include Lorde and political activist Joshua Wong.
Larsson was chosen as “one of the most promising talents in pop music”, with her single ‘Ain’t My Fault’ praised as: “An unapologetic ode to female empowerment”.
Larsson told NME in her cover interview in September: “I don’t know who I am, and this isn’t my sound forever. I’m a human, so hopefully I will always develop.” Larsson’s full NME interview can be read here.
Materazzo, who plays Dustin in Stranger Things, was cited for making having a lisp less of a stigma for sufferers. Time said: “Instead of shying away, Gaten seized the opportunity to speak out. As he put it, he’s since become the voice of a one-in-a-million condition.”
Mendes was picked for being a positive role model in his music, as Time wrote: “Finding his voice as an adult is only half the battle.”
