The Mercury Music Prize-nominated outfit are accompanied by three vocalists...
Zero 7 made their US live debut last night (11 December) at IRVING PLAZA in NEW YORK.
The Mercury Music Prize-nominated two-man team of Henry Binns and Sam Hardaker brought along a full live band for the show, and were also accompanied by all three of the vocalists featured on the Zero 7 debut album, ‘Simple Things’.
After opening with the album’s lead track, ‘I Have Seen’, featuring vocals by Mozez, the group went on to play all of their by now familiar hits, including ‘Distractions’ and ‘In the Waiting Line’, spotlighting singers Sia Furler and Sophie Barker, respectively.
During the first of two encores, a number of surprises came along, starting with a spirited, amped-up cover of Bob Marley‘s ‘Time Will Tell’, with Mozez on vocals. The band then surreally covered their own popular remix of Lambchop‘s ‘Up With People’, with Sia returning as frontwoman.
Everyone returned to the stage together for the second encore, a light-hearted rendition of [a][/a]’s ‘Hot Fun in the Summertime’, that was jokingly labelled “totally inappropriate” from the stage, due to the fact that it’s actually nearly winter outside.
