's 2008 reunion has been declared "nostalgic cabaret" by the man who signed them

Alan McGee, who recruited Kevin Shields band to his influential Creation label, attacked this year's dates in his MySpace blog.

"There is a beautiful irony that the 'nostalgic cabaret' that is My Bloody Valentine are throwing at people in 2008 gets critical acclaim in the easily pleased UK press with MBV still playing the exact same set they did 20 years ago," he wrote. "The only trick Kevin Shields has anymore in 2008 is actual volume and double extra PA to numb you and zero new songs."

Whilst MBV are awesome, I do wonder why they haven't written at least a few new songs and taken them on the road with them. But then you could brand a few of Mcgee's signings as doing 'nostalgic cabaret' these days. Oasis and J&MC come to mind straight away.

His last shot at the band was so unbelievably wrong and hilarious I thought it was a joke- That MBV were the 'joke' band and Ride were the true great band... Obviously though he still has a grudge from the Creation Record days and is sulking that MBV are still loved and no one but the kings of medocrity, Oasis, gives a shit what Alan McGee thinks anymore.

Im glad they are playing the same set, and Im also glad it still sounds the same. Sometimes a bit of time is whats needed for the press to give the artists the acclaim they deserve- ie: jeff buckley, the pixies etc.The beautiful irony is McGee thinks hes making some kind of profound point when all he is doing is stating the stupidly obvious

Will McGee ever be consistent in his evaluation of bands? The MBV show I went to was incredible cuz , if for no other reason, I've never seen them before. (I was 13 when Loveless was being toured and lived in the Highlands). Does McGee really believe that playing the same set from back then make them any worse than, say, Oasis who are still playing Definitely Maybe live because the rest of their songs suck balls?

ha, I understand what he is saying but he has no point. True it is the same songs from 16 years ago but 16 years ago I was 10 years old so obviously never saw them, and having seen them 5 times this year I think its a lot of people first time as well. Kevin has said there will be new material, 2 albums in fact, one finishing off material they started all those years ago and one of completely new material, god knows how long that will take with the speed he works at, i'm for one glad I didn't have to wait anymore time to see them live.
