Music fans speak out over 'emo suicide' furore

Music fans have spoken out in support for My Chemical Romance, after The Daily Mail and a coroner accused them of encouraging teenager Hannah Bond's suicide.

Almost all the fans commenting about My Chemical Romance's response to the allegations have defended the group.

One NME.COM user, Tiberius, wrote: "Anybody who claims that a band is able to make someone commit suicide is naive and ignorant."

Another fan, Shinkou, said: "Blaming a genre of music or a band is too simplistic. No one 'made this girl commit suicide'. The poor girl had so many things to deal with and felt like she could not reach out to anyone: MCR wasn't causing her problems. How could they be responsible?"

TotalyMCR stated: "They aren't a band wanting to make all their fans kill themselves, they are here to give people a voice...I think this march is a fantastic opportunity for us their fans to repay them for their music and words of advice."

Ace McWicked wrote: "Regardless of what you think of MCR or what you think their message is - a song does not make someone kill themselves."

However, a handful of those who posted were more critical of the band, with one, Jertum, writing: "I don't believe MCR are totally responsible, but emo music does promote a, shall we say, 'alternative' way of life. It always seems to me that emo bands tend to dabble in things that they don't understand and so give off the wrong messages in their lyrics."

NME.COM user Reder said: "MCR don't have that much an influence on people's lives, they're just not that good."

Fans of My Chemical Romance are staging a demonstration next weekend (May 31) outside the offices of The Daily Mail in London to protest against their comments about emo.

I don't think we should attack My Chem for their music, we should blame the Daily Mail for the hate mongering and general ill feelings towards anything the over 60s don't understand. I HATE the Daily Mail. Every time you hear about a certain youth genre affecting the nations young it has ALWAYS COME FROM THE DAILY MAIL. Idiots. The lot of them.

I'm not a fan of My Chemical Romance, and I don't particularly appreciate what they do, but this is another prime example of mainstream media in this country. They need something to blame so they pick something they know nothing about. It just echoes what happened with Columbine in the U.S, when Manson was victimised because he was the poster face of mainstream Goth music, and the student happened to be a fan. This girl has died and her family must be absolutely devastated. Instead of paying tribute to her life and trying to raise awareness of this massive tragedy-ridden problem, they choose to spend their time trying to victimise a harmless band who are pretty blatantly there providing comfort more than anything for isolated teens. Fuck the Daily Mail.

Yay i was quoted! Although i was very drunk whilest sticking in my two peneth it is an issue that lots of us appear to be passionate about and it is fantastic to have a place where debate can be held in an open and fair manner. Although most of us did not agree Jertum's comments he/she/it was able to express them all the same giving anybody without a preconcivied opion a chance to formulate their own. The problem with papers like the daily mail and the the express is that they state their opions in big black print in every supermarket and news agents in the country so when they give their opionion on a contentious issue such as immagration, abortion, or suicide an impressional person will read it and jump on the band wagon, even if they're not completely sure why. Unfortunately i can't make the march on saturday but implore all the people going to express themselves peacfully before emo gets blaimed for knife crime

I am a big fan of my chemical romance and believe in no way should they be blamed for hannah bond's death the daily mail dont have a fuck what they are talking about "the black parade is a place"emo's" beleive they go when they die" for gods sake its a bloody song and i for one am an emo and i dont beleive that in the slightest. also how dare they say that mcr's songs glamorise death have they actually heard the lyrics to famous last words - i'm not afraid to keep on living how does that glamourise death at all i meen come on they just talk aload off rubbish. as i said i am an emo but according to them all emos "practise self-harming" THAT IS AN UTTER LIE me and my friends dont self harm the daily mail are just nosing bin to things they no absolutly nothing about they need to stop before they do something seriously stupid!! also i am taking part in the protest outside of the daily mail offices with 18 of my emo friends (as we get called) it is totally unexceptablee what they have done and they need to stand up and admit their fault NOW hannah

I love my chemical romance, they are one of my favorite bands. Their songs are amazing and if anyone would actually see past the stupid stereotype of "emo" then you would see they are a band that know what sort of fans they have. They know that their fans are disconected and maybe depressed. Gerard Way has been one of those kids so he and the rest of the band to everything in their power to try and make their fans see that suicide is not the answer. I think the only lyric with anything about slitting your wriste is cemetary drive and the wrods are "Singing songs that make you slit your wristsIt isn't that much fun, staring down a loaded gun". In many of their shows they have told the audience suicide isnt the answer, and i know mcr have saved lives, mine included. So they shouldn't be accused practicaly of murder untill someone has looked into the point the band and their lyrics.Hannah being an my chem fan would not want her hero's being blamed for her death!give her some respect!

who knew this girl? who knew what was really going on with her and school? did you ever think thats the reson she hanged her self? because she was judges? because she wasent acpted? i think the only people who would really know are her friends. My Chemical Romance is a great band that helps SO many people and there fans say "they saved my life" for many resons. you think there just saying that? no! my chemical romance help people! sure there lyerics say things like "your dead you heard the news that your dead..." ect. ect. but the point is not the lyerics...but the words of wisdome beyond the orignal lyerics! there are meaninge in these song not every one can get and My Chemical Romance's fans are smart enugh to understand them. to know them. There smart enugh to know what there saying! its not about the lyerics....this about the message translated through the lyerics! My Chemical Romance is an Anit-suiside band.

How pathetic that the coroner used great music as a scapegoat. I feel sorry for Hannah's friends and family for all of the unwanted attention this gets. I'm confident that this won't stop MCR or their fans, we can march on. Long LIVE My Chemical Romance.
