My Chemical Romance have announced that they have split up.

The band, who released their fourth studio album 'Danger Days: The True Lives Of The Fabulous Killjoys' in 2010, posted a statement on their official website Mychemicalromance.com last night (March 22) calling time on their career together.

"Being in this band for the past 12 years has been a true blessing," they wrote. "We've gotten to go to places we never knew we would. We've been able to see and experience things we never imagined possible. We shared the stage with people we admire, people we look up to, and best of all, our friends."

They then added:

And now, like all great things, it has come time for it to end. Thanks for all your support, and for being part of the adventure.

My Chemical Romance had stated in May last year that they were set to start work on their fifth studio album, with guitarist Frank Iero claiming that writing sessions had been going "really well", while in recent months the band have also been releasing tracks from their scrapped LP 'Conventional Weapons' online - scroll down to the bottom of the page and click to listen to 'Boy Division' and 'Tomorrow's Money'.

My Chemical Romance have released four studio albums, starting with 2002's debut 'I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love'. Their second LP, 'Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge', followed in 2004 while follow-up 'The Black Parade' was released in 2006 before the release of 'Danger Days...' three years ago.
