Frontman Jim James hits St James Chapel for solo gig

My Morning Jacket's Jim James showcased the band's new album at a gig in a London church tonight (May 22).

Joined by pedal steel guitarist and fellow band member Carl Broemel, the singer switched between guitar and omnichord throughout the set at St James Chapel in Piccadilly.

James showcased a number of tracks from My Morning Jacket's forthcoming 'Evil Urges' album for the first time on UK soil, including 'Sec Walkin'', 'Librarian', 'I'm Amazed' and 'Smokin' From Shootin'', as well as a small selection of older tracks, including 'Z' album track 'What A Wonderful Man'.

Referring to the atmospheric setting, James told the crowd: "I always feel the presence of God when I'm in a church, even though I don't really believe or know what God is.

"This is probably my fantasy gig, 'cause I like it dark."

After 'Evil Urges'' closer 'Touch Me I'm Going To Scream (Part 2)', James left the stage swathed in a navy blue cloak, while his omnichord continued to play an erratic programmed drumbeat until the PA was switched off.

James played:

'Tonite I Want To Celebrate'
'Sec Walkin''
'Golden'
'Look At You'
'Librarian'
'It Beats 4 U'
'Bermuda Hwy'
'What A Wonderful Man'
'The Bear'
'I Will Be There'
'Old Sept Blues'
'I'm Amazed'
'Thank You Too'
'Smokin' From Shootin''
'Gideon'
'Touch Me I'm Going To Scream (Part 2)'
'Anytime'

'Evil Urges' is released on June 9, and James will return to the UK with My Morning Jacket for the following shows:

Sheffield Leadmill (June 25)
Bristol Academy (26)
Manchester University (27)
Glastonbury Festival (29)
Nottingham Rescue Rooms (July 11)
London Forum (15)
