Dappy staged 'unprovoked attack' on man in Reading nightclub, court hears

Former N-Dubz member is currently facing trial at Reading Magistrates Court

A court has heard how Dappy punched a man in a Reading nightclub after he told the musician to stop talking to his female friend.

The former N-Dubz artist allegedly attacked the man, Devonn Reid, in an "unprovoked attack" at the Evissa club in Reading in October 2013.

Reading Magistrates' Court heard that the alleged attack happened after Dappy, real name Costadinos Contostavlos, was asked to stop talking to Reid's female friend at the bar of the establishment prior to the attack.

BBC News reports that Reid's lawyer, Zainab Mohamed, told the court how her client recalls the incident. She said: "He becomes aware of a male who, he says, he recognised to be a person called Dappy from a music group."

"He says that, because a male is having a conversation with his female friend, he intervenes and advises the defendant his actions are not appropriate. He says he is punched out of nowhere once in the face, causing bleeding to stream out of his nose."

Mr Reid said of the alleged attack: "He had just turned and hit me straight with his right hand... he had popped my nose."

Last year, Dappy was found guilty in court on charges of assault by beating after slapping a man outside a different nightclub in 2012.

The trial continues.
