Neil Young reveals new album details

But where is the 'Archives' box set?

Neil Young has recorded a new album due for autumn release, little more than a year after 2006's 'Living With War' .

Provisionally titled 'Chrome Dreams II', the release means that the eight CD/three DVD 'Archives' box set he's been promising for a decade now and which earlier this year he insisted would "definitely’ see the light of day in 2007 has been postponed yet again.

According to a post on his own website in the form of a mocked-up newspaper front page for the NY Times, he unveiled the new record at a playback for executives at his label Warner Brothers last week. The working title is a reference to the legendary 'lost' 'Chrome Dreams' album he recorded in 1976, but never released.

According to Young, 'Chrome Dreams II' includes seven new compositions and "three songs written previously". One track is said to clock in at 18 minutes and another at 13 minutes and the sound is described as "raw and live" by one blogger who claims to have been at the playback.

The only title so far known is 'Ordinary People' . Another track is said to feature the children's choir heard singing 'America The Beautiful' on 'Living With War'.

No release date has been announced but the album's appearance is likely to coincide with an anticipated six-week American tour in October/November.

Meanwhile, several of the new songs are set to get their first outing during Young's appearance at a Farm Aid benefit at New York's Randall's Island on September 9.
