JUNO WHAT I MEAN?

The Juno Awards centre primarily on Canada's music industry...

NEIL YOUNG, BRYAN ADAMS, JONI MITCHELL and SHANIA TWAIN are among the nominees in the JUNO AWARDS, CANADA's equivalent of the GRAMMY or BRIT awards.

The nominations, which centre primarily on Canada's music industry, were announced yesterday (January 24).

Young is nominated in the Best Roots & Traditional Solo Album category for 'Silver And Gold' and in the Best Male category, which last year was won by Bryan Adams. This year, Adams is up for the Best Songwriter gong.

Mitchell earns a nomination in the Best Vocal Jazz category, while The Barenaked Ladies' 'Maroon' album and 'The Moffatts' 'Submodalities' are among albums doing battle in the Best Pop category. The two come face to face again in the Best Group category, where other nominees include The Tragically Hip, soulDecision and Blue Rodeo. Twain is nominated for the Best Country award.

The only category featuring foreign acts is the Best-Selling Album section, where Enrique Iglesias ('Enrique'), Creed ('Human Clay'), Eminem ('The Marshall Mathers LP'), *N Sync ('No Strings Attached') and Britney Spears ('Oops!... I Did It Again') do battle.

The awards ceremony will take place on March 4 at the Copps Coliseum, Ontario, featuring performances from The Moffatts, Vancouver vocalist Nelly Furtado and newcomers soulDecision.
