Super Furry Animals/Neon Neon's Gruff Rhys in new collaboration

Super Furry Animals and Neon Neon's Gruff Rhys appears on the new album by Birmingham indie troupe Misty's Big Adventure.

'Television's People', the new LP by the band, is released today (October 6). It features a recording of Rhys chomping on vegetables, on the song 'Lunch'.

The chomping is a reference to Paul McCartney's recording of vegetable eating on Super Furry Animals' 2001 song 'Receptacle For The Respectable'.

McCartney's recording on the Furries' song is itself a reference to the chomping he recorded on The Beach Boys' 1967 song 'Vegetables'.

Misty's Big Adventure's frontman Grandmaster Gareth told NME.COM how the recording came about.

"We wanted to carry on the vegetable relay started by Brian Wilson when making 'Smile'," he explained. "He got Paul McCartney to eat vegetables on it.

"When we realised we needed some chomping on our track 'Lunch' we figured we wouldn't be able to get McCartney, but Gruff might be up for it.

"We met in Camden, went to a vegetable shop, picked out the crunchiest looking carrots, then went and recorded in a cafe nearby.

"We had to get them to turn the radio off otherwise we'd have had Marvin Gaye's 'Sexual Healing' playing in the background."
