Peter Hook: 'New Order are arguing like a fat Blur and Oasis at the moment' New Order Tickets
Bassist lets rip as both he and Bernard Sumner's side-projects go head-to-head
New Order bassist Peter Hook has compared the current split in the band to the notorious Britpop rivalry of Blur and Oasis.
Hook said he and New Order singer Bernard Sumner are not on speaking terms following the band's split in 2007.
"There is no current situation [with New Order]", he stated. "We split up two years ago. For a while Bernard seemed to be a bit confused about that but now, from what I gather, he's accepted it.
"In my mind, Bernard split us up in 1991 when he went off with Johnny Marr [to form Electronic], and I split us up this time. All we have to wait for is when we get back together is hopefully for Stephen [Morris, drummer] to split us up and we'll all be even."
Hook has previously spoken about how he and Sumner initially fell out, comparing New Order's 2007 incarnation to an "empty shell", and admitting that he was touring "for the money".
Speaking more recently to The Quietus, he compared the split to "the messiest divorce I've ever had".
The bassist also spoke of the fact that his new band Freebass are set to go head to head with Sumner's new outfit Bad Lieutenant, whose album also features drumming by Morris.
"It's a very strange position to be in, especially with the fact that we've both got records coming out together at the same time," he explained. "It's very weird. But it's exciting. It's a bit like a fat version of Blur and Oasis."
