NEW ORDER PARTY THE NEW YEAR IN

NEW ORDER who - as reported here earlier - are to headline a New Year's Eve show at London's Alexandra Palace, have also lined up an all-nighter at Manchester G-Mex for December 29.

The gigs come in the wake of the band's successful Reading Festival reunion. Both shows will run from 9pm to 6am and support acts are currently being confirmed. New Order are also promising a new album next year to coincide with a string of US dates.

Bassist Peter Hook told Radio 1 in the UK: "We're doing a new album in the new year. We're getting on very well. It's the first time in years that we've actually enjoyed each other's company, and I'm very pleased about it indeed. I'm looking forward to it and it's not been very often I've been able to say that!"

The first new release from the band will be their long-awaited box set, featuring a number of previously unreleased tracks. Called 'Recycle', it is set for release in January.

Electronic's third LP, 'Twisted Tenderness', will also surface in January, and Hook is finishing off Monaco's second album.

Tickets for the shows are available now priced '30.00 for Manchester and '39.00 for London from the NME 24-hour ticketline on 0870 1212 500. Calls are charged at national (UK) standard rate.
