Peter Hook has expressed his dismay at the decision of his former New Order bandmates to reform without him.

It was announced this week that Bernard Sumner and Stephen Morris would play two benefit shows this year, with Gillian Gilbert also returning to the fold after a decade out of the band. The shows are taking place to help with medical expenses for sick friend Michael Shamberg.

But now, Hook has broken his silence, saying he wished the band had consulted him over the reunion.

A statement released today (September 9) says:

I first I heard about this on Monday and it has taken me completely by surprise! Everyone knows that NEW ORDER without PETER HOOK is like QUEEN without FREDDIE MERCURY, U2 without THE EDGE, SOOTY without SWEEP!

The bass player continues:

On a more serious note, I do not understand the decision THE OTHER THREE have taken. I wish they had approached me first. I do not agree with the methods they have used and feel it would have been courteous and professional to have spoken to me in advance of the announcements. It is very sad.

Relations between the two camps have been bitter since Hook left for the final time in 2007, following the album 'Waiting For The Siren's Call'.

New Order will play Brussels Ancienne Belgique on October 17 and Paris La Bataclan the following night.
