Nick Cave has called himself a megalomaniac "with extremely low self-esteem".

"As far as work goes, I'm something of a megalomaniac," he said to the New York Times. "But a megalomaniac with extremely low self-esteem."

During the interview Cave also discussed the music tastes of his twin 14-year-old sons, saying: "My kids are at that lovely age where they're just figuring out what's good in music. They're just grabbing stuff, on Spotify and all that, and occasionally they'll find something that's really mind-blowing. But sometimes I hear what they're playing, and I just want to cut my wrists."

Speaking about the graphic imagery in his songs, he commented: "I have a female audience in my mind when I write. That being said, I'm often flabbergasted by what some women find sexy in my music."

Nick Cave is set to perform a number of rare solo shows on piano. The performances will take place alongside screenings of the film 20,000 Days On Earth where Cave will also take part in Q&A sessions. The documentary, which depicts a fictitious 24 hours in the life of the Australian musician, won two awards at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year. Iain Forsyth and Jane Pollard received the directing award in the category of World Cinema Documentary, with Jonathan Amos picking up the Editing Award.

The film will be touring North America throughout the summer, with Cave appearing at screenings in Los Angeles (July 10), Montreal (August 1) and New York City (August 4) and will run alongside Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds' summer tour.
