Nicki Minaj has said she got fed up of trying to be sexy because "it's boring".

In an interview with the Daily Telegraph, the rapper – who is set to release her new album 'Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded' on April 3 – said she had felt under pressure to adopt a glamorous image to succeed in the hip-hop world, but changed tack when she realized she wasn't showing off her full personality.

"When I started getting serious about rap, the people closest to me were like, 'You should dress this way, you should speak that way, you should rap this way,'" she said. "I just started feeling super caged in."

She added:
I thought you had to do that [be sexy]. But it's boring. The typical sexy. I mean, girls wanna be sexy but I also think you have other sides of yourself.

Speaking about how she had transformed her persona, she explained: "Right before my album came out I felt like I had been hiding my personality – my comedic side. I had to ask myself, 'Why am I only showing one facet of who I am?'"
