Krist Novoselic blogs about 'Smells Like Teen Spirit'

Former Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic has spoken out about the origins of 'Smells Like Teen Spirit'.

Blogging for the ’Seattle Weekly’, in a post entitled ’Smells Like (Put Word Here) Spirit’, Novoselic debunked a myth about the song.

He said: "Kathleen Hannah wrote 'Kurt Smells Like Teen Spirit' on Kurt’s apartment wall. I recall seeing it and thinking, 'Too much cheap red wine!'”

He added: "I don’t know why she wrote it, but I know for sure that Kurt Cobain did not have any odour problems. Even though his place was a mess, he took care of his hygiene. This person would soak in the bath night after night only listening to The Beatles."

Blogging about the fact he rarely discusses his former band, he wrote: "I don’t do a lot of Nirvana interviews. I could do a documentary interview about the band everyday, forever! For better or worse, the digital revolution is the great leveller. You don’t need the volume of knowledge regarding shutter speeds, light conditions for film stock or other expensive aspects of celluloid."

Last year, Novoselic was involved in local politics in Washington State and wrote a personal memoir entitled ’Of Grunge & Government: Let’s Fix this Broken Democracy’.
