Nirvana's 1991 single 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' has gone in at Number Six in the Official UK Singles Chart's midweek placings.

The song has been released in a bid to become 2011's Christmas Number One. However, the man behind the campaign to score Nirvana a Christmas Number One has played down his chances of success.

Jon Morter, who also started 2009's campaign to make Rage Against The Machine's 'Killing In The Name' Christmas Number One believes that Military Wives Choir's 'Wherever You Are' will take the top spot over Nirvana and this year's winners of The X Factor, Little Mix.

He said:
I think it's going be a lot tougher than the Rage Against The Machine campaign, which was bloody hard. There's a lot more at stake. The Military Wives single has got a very big amount of pre-orders. In complete honesty, I think that's the one to keep an eye out for, more than the actual X Factor.

According to bookmakers Ladbrokes, Nirvana's song currently has a 7/1 chance of winning. X Factor winners Little Mix are at 15/8, while Military Wives Choir are currently at 1/2 to finish on top.
