Nirvana, The Replacements, Linda Ronstadt, Peter Gabriel and Hall & Oates are among the first-time nominees on the shortlist for induction into America's Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame next year (2014).

Repeat nominees on the newly announced list include KISS (pictured right), LL Cool J, NWA, Cat Stevens, Deep Purple and Chic, who are up for the eighth time since 2003.

The Foundation’s nominating committee selects the 16 nominees each year, then ballots are sent to an international voting body of more than 600 artists, historians and members of the music industry who vote for the inductees. The performers who receive the highest proportion of the vote will be inducted at a ceremony next April in New York, having been announced in December.

Artists are eligible for induction 25 years after the release of their first record. Nirvana, who released debut album 'Bleach' in 1989, have been nominated at the first possible opportunity.
