A communications company have published a series of portraits speculating what dead rock stars such as Kurt Cobain, Bob Marley and Elvis Presley would look like if they were still alive today.

Sachs Media Group worked with photo manipulators PhoJoe on the project, which provides digitally aged photographs of the likes of The Doors' frontman Jim Morrison, Karen Carpenter and Jimi Hendrix.

The gallery, which is completed by images of The Who drummer Keith Moon, 'Mama' Cass Elliot, Bobby Darin, Janis Joplin and Dennis Wilson, also features imaginary accounts of what each musician may have gone on to achieve if they had survived, courtesy of musicologists Dr Reebee Garofalo and Elijah Wald – they believe Cobain, for example, would have "explored smaller, less commercial projects" while Lennon may have been the "first classic rocker to embrace the hip-hop revolution".

In September of this year, it was revealed that Kurt Cobain's childhood home was being put up for sale. The singer's mother, Wendy O'Connor, listed the bungalow in Aberdeen, Washington on the market for $500,000 (£313,000), even though it was last valued at less than $67,000 (£42,000). He lived there until his parents separated when he was nine, and also returned for another stint in the home as a teenager.

Earlier this year, Nirvana celebrated the 20th anniversary of their final studio album 'In Utero'. A remastered version of the LP was released to mark the occasion, which featured 70 tracks including previously unreleased recordings, demos, B-sides, compilation tracks and live material featuring the band's final touring line-up of Cobain, Krist Novoselic, Dave Grohl and Pat Smear.
