A music fan has apparently discovered that Kurt Cobain's 1965 Fender Jaguar guitar used to be owned by session musician Martin Jenner, who performed with Cliff Richard and the Everly Brothers.

Posting on Telecaster Dicussion Page Reissue, the fan claims he spotted the iconic modified left-handed guitar in footage of Cliff Richard playing live in 1981 in Chichester. Jenner appears to be playing the same guitar, later made famous by Cobain in Nirvana, as a member of The Cliff Richard Band.

Krist Novoselic, former Nirvana bassplayer, has commented on the alleged discovery on Twitter, suggesting that it could be true.

Fender writes that Cobain's primary guitar used in Nirvana was bought by the frontman in Los Angeles in the summer of 1991. His guitar tech, Earnie Bailey, said he bought the instrument because: "I think he just liked the lines of the Jaguar, and I think he just liked the whole California surf thing and the history that went along with Fender guitars."

Bailey adds that it was not know who had owned the guitar previously. "To me that’s the greatest mystery. It had a flight case. And you're talking about a guitar that at the time was probably worth maybe $300. So someone had commissioned really extensive modifications on it and then paid for a flight case for it," he said.
