Wakefield trio joined by guitarist on Shockwaves NME Awards Tour

The Cribs were joined onstage by The SmithsJohnny Marr in Glasgow on the Shockwaves NME Awards Tour last night (February 1).

The legendary guitarist joined the Wakefield three-piece during their headline slot at the city’s Barrowlands venue, performing The Smiths’ classic 'Panic' and The Cribs own track 'I'm A Realist' together.

Introducing Marr, frontman Ryan Jarman told the crowd that "The Cribs are going to have a fourth member for the first time ever!"

Marr has been working with the trio after making friends with Gary Jarman following the pair’s meeting in Portland, Oregon, and is rumoured to be linking-up with the trio after further dates on the current tour.

The band also had a second - albeit recorded - guest as Sonic Youth's Lee Ranaldo recreated his part for 'Be Safe' via a giant video screen.

The rest of The Cribs set featured tracks from all three of their albums, though focussed mainly on their newer material, including the anthemic 'Men's Needs' and a rousing rendition of 'The Wrong Way', which ended with Ryan Jarman stripping-off his shirt and diving headfirst into the crowd.

The Cribs played:

'Don't You Wanna Be Relevant'
'Our Bovine Public'
'Hey Scenesters!'
'Girls Like Mystery'
'My Life Flashed Before My Eyes'
'Martell'
'I've Tried Everything'
'Woman's Needs'
'Moving Pictures'
'Bastards Of Young'
'Be Safe'
'Men's Needs'
'Mirror Kissers'
'Another Number'
'Ancient History'
'The Wrong Way To Be'
'Panic'
'I'm A Realist'

The Shockwaves NME Awards Tour is currently heading around the UK and also features Joe Lean and the Jing Jang Jong, and The Ting Tings.

I really hope Johnny Marr comes to Newcastle on sunday, it would be a dream come true, although i reckon it would be even better if Lee Ranaldo came on and played 'Be Safe' with them instead

hey he was better in Manchester and we dont get a mention.
We are his home crowd and he only did glasgow as a warm up for us lol!
I met him after and when he finished having pics with us he drove past us in his audi wound down his window and waved at us and thanked us for waiting! What a legend!
And then Ross tried to get us in the cribs dressing room and some stupid bouncer had a go at hi so we had to wait downstage for Ryan and Gary.
Best night ever.
Cheers NME and cheers XFM Manchester for the free tickets!¬
