Kate Nash 'shocked' to beat Amy Winehouse

Singer 'genuinely surprised' by Shockwaves NME Award

Kate Nash 'shocked' to beat Amy Winehouse

Kate Nash was so sure Amy Winehouse would beat her to Best Solo Artist at the Shockwaves NME Awards that she didn’t even prepare a speech.

As previously reported, the singer triumphed at last night's (February 28) ceremony in London.

Speaking to NME.COM, Nash declared: “Oh, my speech was awful, I've just realised! I'm genuinely really surprised. I was not nervous about today, I thought Amy Winehouse had won and that's cool, so I was just going to come and cheer and boo. So when I won it I was like 'argh'!”

Nash added that she was enjoying her first Shockwaves NME Awards but that it was hard to take it all in.

“It's been a weird day, I'm not really with it,” she said. “How am I going to celebrate? I'm going to drink all the free whiskeys they're giving away!”
