Plus Tom Clarke reveal unlikely home for his statue

The Enemy paid tribute to their fans as they picked up Best New Band at the Shockwaves NME Awards, but had a harsh word for bands posing at the ceremony.

The trio scooped the prize at last night’s (February 28) ceremony in London, which competition winners were invited to come and watch for the first time.

Speaking to NME.COM, frontman Tom Clarke thanked the fans for all their support and votes.

“Cheers public. We appreciate it,” he declared. “It’s the people who were on the top balcony who put us on that stage so we gave them a round of applause. It’s great that they’re all in here this year. It’s nice, it gives it a bit more atmosphere.

"There are too many bands that sit there, too cool for school – everyone’s here so don’t pretend you’re not interested – so it’s nice to have them all up there.”

Clarke also revealed his unlikely trophy case for their award.

“Do you know where I think it would look good? In the back of a Vauxhall Nova,” he explained. “It would look great next to a little Churchill dog with the nodding head. It would look class there. Sadly I haven’t got a Nova so if anyone has one for sale give us a shout.”

You'd like to hope that the enemy have the best intentions at heart but they make themselves impossible to like. They are like a musical sausage factory, churning out braindead, musically and lyrically vapid tunes for commercial success. The state of new music now is dire. Somethings gotta change.

The Enemy are a class band and outshone all other nominees in this category, fully deserved! And as for Tom's opinions well... they're his opinions and everyones entitled to an opinion are they not?

Of course hes allowed his opinions, and compared to the scene kids of the like of Lightspeed Champion, Foals and Does It Offend You, Yeah? he has got a point, it would just be nice if he could back it up with the music instead of relying on lyrical cliches that have been going around for the last 35 years.

dear me, the ugly brummies have outdone themselves this time. the people who vote for the nme awards are the typical divvys who think the wombats are indie. How the enemy, a band almost exactly the same to most crappy "indie" bands out these days have won an nme award ahead of foals amazes me. If a poxy band like the enemy were going to win that, i think the pigeon detectives probably deserved it more... butt foals are a lot better and more talented than the pair of them POP groups

"outshone the other nominees"? erm...FOALS anyone?
sure maybe they dont write songs for football hooligans but without a doubt they are the most interesting pop band to emerge for a while..out of the rancid selection anyway
