New categories added to US NME Awards

Have your say by voting ahead of this year's ceremony

The north American leg of the NME Awards has grown today (March 20), with the announcement of six new categories – plus the ceremony itself will be broadcast live.

Following the British awards last month, a brand new ceremony will take place in Los Angeles on April 23 at the El Rey Theatre.

Joining the previously announced awards are new prizes to reward north American talent.

The new categories are:

American Alternative/Indie Album Of The Year
Best New American Alternative/Indie Band
Best New American Alternative/Indie Live Act

That means the full categories for the awards are now:

Have your say now by going to NME.COM/USAawardsvote and casting your votes for the long list. We will then count up your votes and announce the shortlist of nominations on April 7.

Meanwhile, the ceremony is not the only awards tradition that is heading over the Atlantic.

The legendary NME Awards Tour, which has given a first leg up to the likes of Franz Ferdinand, Bloc Party, The Killers, and most recently this year saw The Smiths’ legendary guitarist Johnny Marr hit the road playing with The Cribs, launches in north America this April.

Kate Nash is headlining, with more acts to be announced very soon. You can buy Kate Nash US tickets on NME.COM now.
