New categories added to US NME Awards

The north American leg of the NME Awards has grown today (March 20), with the announcement of six new categories – plus the ceremony itself will be broadcast live.
Following the British awards last month, a brand new ceremony will take place in Los Angeles on April 23 at the El Rey Theatre.
Joining the previously announced awards are new prizes to reward north American talent.
The new categories are:
American Alternative/Indie Album Of The Year
Best New American Alternative/Indie Band
Best New American Alternative/Indie Live Act
Best Video
Best Film
Best TV Show
That means the full categories for the awards are now:
Best American Alternative/Independent Band Of The Year
Best American Alternative/Independent Solo Artist
Best American Alternative/Independent Track
Best New American Alternative/Independent Solo Artist
Best International Alt/Indie Band
Best International Alt/Indie Solo Artist
Best International Alt/Indie Live Act
Best International Alt/Indie Album
Best International Alt/Indie Track
Best New International Alt/Indie New Band

Meanwhile, the ceremony is not the only awards tradition that is heading over the Atlantic.
The legendary NME Awards Tour, which has given a first leg up to the likes of Franz Ferdinand, Bloc Party, The Killers, and most recently this year saw The Smiths’ legendary guitarist Johnny Marr hit the road playing with The Cribs, launches in north America this April.
