Jane's Addiction to reform for US NME Awards

Original line-up take to the stage in Los Angeles next week (Apr 23)

Jane's Addiction are set to reform especially for the US NME Awards next week (April 23).

The original line-up of singer Perry Farrell, guitarist Dave Navarro, drummer Stephen Perkins and bassist Eric Avery will perform.

The band who are picking up NME’s Godlike Genius Award for Extraordinary Services To Music at the ceremony at the El Rey Theatre, will also play for the first time since 2004.

Jane's Addiction follow the likes of New Order, Primal Scream and Glastonbury supremo Michael Eavis in picking up the Godlike Genius award.

Speaking to NME.COM about the renion next week, singer Perry Farrell explained: "I could not be more excited to be playing with all of the original members of Jane’s Addiction – I’ve wanted to feel this way for a long time."

Guitarist Dave Navarro added: "Nothing has meant more to me in my creative life than my time with Jane's Addiction. I truly consider Perry, Eric and Stephen as having had the most profound impact on me as a musician and as an artist. I am looking forward to playing with these amazing talents again and sharing the magic of our music together, as we did when it was written."

The awards take place next week and will be streamed live on Myspace, head to Myspace.com/nmemagazine for more information.

incredible. this has absolutely made my week. they'll never be as good as they were in '89 but this is such a cool tribute to one of the greatest bands ever

the important thing here, what the article doesn't make enough of is the fact that eric will be there. even with flea and especially with chaney, jane's lacked something. he brought a lot to that table and it's good that he's getting props now.

>bergkamp72You're absolutely right about Eric Avery, he brought so much to that original line-up. Mountain Song and Summertime Rollswill - hopefully - sound like they should.

I'm sure the songs will sound much better now that Eric Avery, the friggen bass player, is back. What nonsense.

Janes Addiction are very underrated as a live act and for their imact on the music scene and this award is a great stamp of recognition to a worthy band. They changed my life and Im glad

I'm VERY surprised Eric Avery is doing this. He's declined every single invitation to play with Perry again since 1991. I wonder if the fact that his debut solo album has just come out has anything to do with it? Hmm. Well, whatever the reason, it'll be amazing to see the four of them on stage together again playing Janes songs (that is if they can manage not to kill each other between now and then). Somebody better record it!
