Vampire Weekend made the NME Awards USA (April 23) by the skin of their teeth after a performance at a TV show in Los Angeles.
Drummer Chris Tompson made it to the El Rey Theatre in time to pick up the Best New Band award, while his bandmates had to deal with a technical issue on the 'Jimmy Kimmel Live' show
"We're doing our first festival at Coachella this weekend and this our first award," explained the drummer who had an eventful night at the Shockwaves NME Awards in London after he was knocked over outside an aftershow party. "So its a double celebration!"
