NME Awards USA: The Killers, Klaxons and Jane’s Addiction triumph

Find out who won what at the first ever American ceremony

The NME Awards USA took place last night (April 23) at the El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles. Stars packed out the venue for the first ever NME Awards USA ceremony, to find out who would be crowned in each category.

Jane’s Addiction were presented with the Godlike Genius Award For Services To Music – with the founding line-up reforming specially for the night and playing live together for the first time in 17 years.

The Killers were crowned Band Of The Year on the night, seeing off competition from the likes of Kings Of Leon, The White Stripes and My Chemical Romance. The band also won the gong for Best Track, for their Lou Reed collaboration ‘Tranquilize’.

Vampire Weekend were also big winners on the night, being anointed Best New Band. They also won the award for Best New Live Act.

Mark Ronson was awarded the Best New Solo Artist award, while Kate Nash won the Best International Solo Artist Award.

The Killers, Nash and Vampire Weekend weren’t the only two acts to be given two awards. Arcade Fire were given the Best International Band award, as well as the gong for Best International Live Band.

They were nominated for the Best International Album award, but that honour went to Arctic Monkeys for their ‘Favourite Worst Nightmare’ record.

The Monkeys weren’t at the ceremony to collect their award, so Klaxons swiped it from them. Klaxons did get three awards, of their own though, picking upBest International Track, for ‘Golden Skans’, Best New International Band and Best New International Live Act.
