Fans of three bands launch campaigns to bag NME Radio honour

Three bands are currently jostling for position in the vote to decide the first song that will be played on NME Radio.

The station launches next week, at 11am on June 24, and we're asking you to pick the first song that gets played.

Currently, Muse's 'Knights Of Cydonia', Coldplay's
'Bigger Stronger' and The Killers' 'Mr. Brightside' are fighting it out at the top of the online poll.

Fans have been uniting across a Coldplay fansite, a The Killers messageboard and a Muse online forum to orchestrate the mass voting.

To have your say, head to the NME Radio launch vote now.

Not the best songs by any of these bands - although none of these bands should have the honour - oasis, blur, stone roses, manics, dylan, white stripes all far ahead of them - but thank fuck the ting tings and crystal castles arent up there !!

Well that defests the object of it!! I wouldn't have minded if they were brilliant songs but they're not! Don't get me wrong, I like them but hmmmm. Definitely should over-ride the voting and play Transmission by Joy Division. Just listen to the lyrics! It's perfect!

Maybe if the choice of Radiohead wasn't Black star Radiohead would have the honors.Or a Blur song that wasn't Song2?Just a thought?

Can't really add anythin to Jimmy and Sykesmeister...why the hell are average tracks by the likes of Muse, Coldplay and Killers ahead of genuine stone-cold classics by Oasis, Blur, the Roses, Manics, Joy Division, the Clash, Radiohead, Beatles...I could go on...???? C'mon NME - I'm all for democracy but not when its left to middle-class students

If I had to choose, I'd pick "Mr Brightside". But to be honest, it's like picking the best of a bad bunch. Where's the Beatles, the Stones, Dylan, Joy Division, Bowie etc?!

Even though Muse are my favorite band, they could've picked a better song. I would've gone for a more classic choice like Plug In Baby, I dunno.

Maybe I just grew up in the wrong era but I've never considered Oasis to be a classic act. I know this is a cliched way of looking at them but they're arrogant twats whose songs are just not interesting at all. They were appalling at Glasto 2004, absolutely shite. Liam is an idiot.

As a representative of the Muse fanbase I'd just like to point out how much fun we're having beating fans of The Killers and Coldplay at something they're taking far more seriously :D
